Planning for a guest event, discussion of strictly club matters and seeing a 15-minute sound-color movie occupied Juneau Kiwanians this noon at the weekly luncheon meeting in the Baranof Gold Room. The special event will be a Kiwanis "ladies' night" dinner and program with a St. Patrick's Day theme, Wednesday evening, March 15. The affair for Kiwanis couples and their guests will be at 8 o'clock in the Baranof Gold Room, with Dr. John Montgomery in charge of program arrangements. There will be no noon meeting March 15. Business matters today included a detailed report by Dr. H. C. Harris on the annual collection from Juneau business firms of "Christmas seal" funds for anti-tuberculosis work. Chairman of this Kiwanis responsibility for the third successive year, Dr. Harris expressed special appreciation to the many Juneau business men and women who generously supported the 1949 drive. Among the projects the 1949 fund helps support are the chest clinic maintained by the Juneau Health Center; a new motion picture projector for the Seward Sanatorium; substantial aid for the Hudson Stuck Memorial Hospital in Fort Yukon for patients with tubercular meningitis, transportation for a Juneau patient needing outside treatment and tutoring for a young patient able to have home care. Half the money collected is used by the Alaska Tuberculosis Association. The Club voted enthusiastically, with applause, a tribute to Dr. Harris for his work and for his continuance of the Club's further work of the same nature. Ed Hinke, today's program chairman, presented a Forest Service motion picture, "Everyman's Empire", with Kiwanian E. K. Guerin operating the projector. This effective film concerns the 152 national forests owned by the people of the United States, source of one-third of the nation's saw timber, a vast water storehouse and wild game refuge. Conservation is the principal theme.
