Immense Union Meeting at Augusta Ga.

POLITICAL DEMAGOGUES DENOUNCED

A Union State Convention

AUGUSTA, GA., NOV. 20. The largest meeting ever held in Greene county, Ga., assembled on Friday. The most influential men in the county participated. Resolutions of a conservative character were adopted almost unanimously, urging a State Convention of all parties where the evils threatening the destruction of the Union could be calmly considered, and appealing to the people of the Union to discard the counsels of agitating politicians and demagogues of all sections, and to rally in defence of the imperilled government; charging that politicians have stirred up the present excitement and distrust by pandering to the passions and prejudices of the people, and by keeping each section ignorant of the patriotic, conservative and catholic feeling of the other; mutually exasperated by the incendiary representations of hungry office-seekers, both sections find themselves in a fierce controversy which they had no hand in bringing about.

A large meeting was held in Hancock county on Saturday, which adopted firm conservative resolutions denying that the mere election of Lincoln was a cause for disunion, but denouncing the unfriendly legislation of many of the free States.

A majority of the county meetings held thus far favor secession, many, however, are strongly conservative. Some favor retaliatory legislation, and all favor a State Convention. They all oppose coercion of the seceding States.

A meeting at Bryan county declared that no Northern fishermen or hunters should hereafter operate in their section and those at present fishing and hunting in that section are notified to leave.
