WASHINGTON:

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 21.

It will probably be sufficient to attract the attention of most of our readers to the Report on the preceding page, that it relates to the Compensation Law; on which subject, it is the first document that has been submitted to the public. It may be viewed as an exposition of the motives of those who supported the measure at the last session, but now think it proper, from the many expressions of the popular feeling on the subject, to modify it in such a manner as to divest it of the features which have proved obnoxious. The gentlemen who compose the committee of the House, which made this report are Messrs. Johnson of Ky. Findley Webster, Pitkin, Bassett, Cady, and Reynolds.

The report is characterised by an ability, as creditable to the House itself, as to the committee which is its organ.
