The Hagerstown, (Maryland) papers of Monday, contain the following appalling intelligence—
'Our military companies have just been ordered out, to suppress an insurrection on the line of the Canal, a few miles below Williamsport. An express was sent over by Mr. Purcell, Chief Engineer, and a large number of our citizens have repaired to the field of action. The contest is between two parties of the Canal-lers, and it is said that the aggressors were well armed, and about two hundred in number. Serious fears were entertained that they would destroy the works. The cause of the outrage is supposed to be some dissatisfaction about their pay. Several persons, (Irish,) had been killed when the express came in.'
