Full Text

There having lately happen'd an uncommon Accident in Barbados, wherein the Jews of that Place were concern'd, the Court thought proper to swear them by the long Oath, as it is called among the Jews, which is as follows:

The Oath formerly (and voluntarily) taken amongst the Hebrew Nation, in order to the obtaining the Truth from one another.

By the Holy Name of Adonai, God of my Father Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and by the Ten Commandments which by his Divine Mouth were given us on Mount SINAI, I swear to speak the whole Truth without Reservation; and in Case I swear false in all, or in Part, from this Time, let my Soul be damned to all Eternity, and never enjoy the Happiness of Heaven, and let my Body be tormented with the Plagues of Egypt, and may it be confounded as Korah and his Company, and as Sodom and Gomorrah; and let all the Curses that are written within the Law of Moses excommunicate me, and find me out, and work in me the bitter Agonies aforesaid, and that I may be excommunicated from the Congregation of Israel for ever and ever, AMEN.
