KEARSARGE IS SPEEDY.
Smashes All Ocean Records for Battleships of Her Class.

Washington, July 8.-The big United States battleship Kearsarge smashed all ocean records for speed in the battleship class in her journey to Kiel, making a total distance of 3,345 miles from New York to the Needles at the high average speed of 16.62 miles per hour. She made the entire run without a single stop or disarrangement of the machinery, which showed its perfection by running up the speed to 14.5 and 15 knots on the last few days of the voyage.
