Chamber Previews Costume Attire for Midnight Sun Festival

A preview of what is to be worn at the Midnight Sun Festival was shown Monday at the noon luncheon of the Chamber of Commerce with most of the men and many of the women in their Gold Rush day outfits, some of which were very elaborate.

Mary Pilcher, was elaborate in a dance hall girl outfit with all the accessories. The entire Nomerama staff were in costume which will be worn at the theater throughout the Festival, and several others showed off what will be worn.

Mrs. Pilcher had on display a sample of many items which she has available for sale at her home (McCarthy residence) such as tall hats, derby hats and straws for women, false eyelashes, wigs, pigtails, arm bands, lace mitts and even costumes for those who would rent them.

Charles Jones and Virginia Brown demonstrated the old fashioned waltz and were joined by others in the luncheon group.

It has been ascertained that at least two special charters are to be here during the festival from eastern states with John McNees as tour guide, as well as Wien tours.

There will be a reindeer barbecue, headed by the Jaycees who have a beard growing contest underway.

The Queen contest is chaired by Sharon Harwood who is calling all interested girls 16 years or older to get an early start and register now. The winner will be judged on her appearance and personality. The judges will be an impartial group chosen from out-of-town visitors here for the day. Although the girls will be selling tickets for the poke of gold which is being given away this does not have anything to do with the choosing of the Queen of the Festival, stated Robert Harwood, general chairman.
