Full Text
We publish an interesting document in this paper from the Secretary of the Treasury. We presume it will be very generally read and examined: inasmuch as it will attract the attention of all, it may be considered of importance; to give it that character on account of the matter contained in it, or out of respect to its authority, would be entirely wrong. Mr. Gallatin may preside with ability at the head of the treasury department, but how dangerous would it be were a secretary of the treasury to influence the views of Congress? We refrain making further remarks, until the subject is maturely considered.
