Bulletin.
To all whom it may concern these PRESENTS come greeting :
WHEREAS one of the brokers of Georgetown, has, in the plenitude of assumption, issued a kind of mock manifesto, designating by his dictum, those banks in the District of Columbia which pay specie for their notes: and, like another Atlas, has taken on his shoulders the burden of their responsibility.
And whereas the aforesaid personage has, without conferring with the banks in Alexandria, "considered it his duty" to pronounce on them his opinion : and in so doing has either wilfully or ignorantly excluded the Mechanics' Bank from his list of "banks paying specie"
Now these are to certify, (the aforesaid Broker's proclamation notwithstanding.) that, in addition to the Alexandria, Potomac, Farmers' and Union Banks. (which have, under the most severe pressure from the brokers on the other side, invariably and constantly retired their notes by drafts on the NORTH, or with specie) that the Mechanics' Bank has resumed specie payment.
"We hold ourselves responsible for the above declaration to the public.
Done and perfected at our office, corner of Prince and Fairfax streets. this second day of June, Anno Domini 1819, and in the first era of our vocation.
