Yesterday a meeting of the inhabitants of Boston was held "to adopt suitable measures to evidence their respect for the President of the United States on his expected visit to this metropolis." Stephen Codman, Esq. was chosen moderator; and the following gentlemen were elected a Committee to report the measures which they might consider proper to adopt, viz.--Hon. Harrison Gray Otis, Hon. William Gray, Gen. Arnold Wells, Col. James T. Austin, George Blake, Esq. Benjamin Russell, Esq. William Sullivan, Esq. Col. William H. Sumner and the Hon. Israel Thorndike. In a short time they made a report, recommending the appointment of a Committee of 13, in addition to the Selectmen, with full powers to make such arrangements as they thought suitable to welcome the President to this Capital. The report was accepted, and the above mentioned gentlemen, together with Maj. Gen. Dearborn, Thomas H. Perkins, James Prince, Esq. and the Hon. Aaron Hill, were appointed to constitute the new Committee, with the Selectmen.
