(Norfolk Public Ledger.)
We have carefully searched through our French papers, The Commercial, Political, and Literary Journal, and the Publiciste, for May; but we do not find in them one syllable about Moreau, or any of the other persons arrested. If this proves any thing, it is that the Paris Journalists dare not make any allusions to those cases, unless by the precise instruction or permission of the government. On this important subject we were anxious to know something authentic: what we had heretofore known was through the channel of the English prints alone.
In the succeeding columns of this day, will be found all the information we have been able to gain respecting Moreau. By which, if authentic, it will be seen that that great unfortunate General has at last been sentenced to two years confinement. Can any thing more plainly mark the iniquity of the proceeding? Had he, indeed, been guilty, and had he been proved so to the satisfaction of the nation, he would have suffered death with Georges. But as it was necessary to remove him while the late schemes were in a state of maturation, it is now equally necessary to keep him out of the way, lest his presence should yet prevent the enjoyment of the honours thus acquired.

Event Details
Captain Messervey reported rumor from Jersey that Moreau's sentence was changed to death and executed with Georges and others. French papers for May silent on the matter, suggesting government censorship. Authentic information indicates Moreau sentenced to two years confinement to remove him during maturation of schemes, unlike Georges who faced death.
