"American" Repudiators!

The so-called "Americans" of Clearfield county, held a large county meeting at Clearfield, on the 1st inst., at which they repudiated the black republican nominations, unanimously, after adopting the following preamble :

"Whereas, we have been grossly deceived and disappointed, being able to discover no element in that Convention save the most abstract Black Republicanism, and in one of its candidates only a Locofoco Free Trade Free-Soiler, while in another we recognize a Philadelphia Bully, who, in the late Presidential contest, turned traitor at the eleventh hour and sought to betray the American Party into the hands of its enemies."

"H. Bucher Swope," and another Know Nothing luminary addressed the meeting, and during their remarks handled the "British Free Trade Loco Foco Republican," Wilmot, without gloves. The gentlemen really seem to be oblivious to the fact that the Know Nothings are dead! very dead—eternally dead and buried!
