The Virginia Enterprise says there is a comical side to the electoral vote investigation business, which consists in the fact that the judges are all acting the part of prosecuting attorneys. Now it appears to us that the Republicans generally do not see anything so very comical in the fact that their cause in this case is so terribly bad a one that the members of their own party on the committee cannot do otherwise than seem to be acting as prosecuting attorneys. The Enterprise does not make any attempt to excuse the visiting Statesmen for their complicity in getting up false protests and fraudulent returns in Louisiana, but he picks up Cristin and hurls him at the Democrats evidently considering that that is sufficient answer to every accusation made against his party leaders. Now it will be recollected that in the Oregon affair the position taken by many Democrats was that there was two sides to the question as to whether Governor Grover was justified in pursuing the course he did or not, but that admitting that the preponderance of authority was against him still he was excusable for doing as he did on account of the outrageous frauds which were being perpetrated by the Republican cause in far other States. It will be recollected how the Republican leaders were indignant at the idea of the Democrats even hinting that it ought to make any difference in their actions that the returning boards and election officers of Florida and Louisiana had falsely counted those States for Hayes. It is well known that previous to the present investigation, although not denying the frauds committed the Republicans laid everything to the election and returning officers, but now that the conspiracy with them has been brought home to Sherman, that they and all of Hayes' men must intimate dishonesty it is interesting to notice that they take exactly the same position for Tilden which the Democrats were censured in such stinging terms. In Washington John Sherman was confronted with the testimony which Lew Wallace and Anderson gave and is echoing his to steal or supposing the fraudulent vote in the late election of Hayes. Which the ballots and pits in the lane of Mr. Hayes would borrow himself by as a and dore I ma at th it old yo white that ltey : I1 ais, hs is 1t positive iadthnks he dit mol, taedint thereanthibslutheItee wuh A soult he whitt uo.r tho - ciredaats todyh1y he i-ia a it b. mnd yl. that oons.idus tho t.t te : the Demdciats halmate use e miust. cou iathehecti, thetaoies wrju-tit.mtug tit iqie 1 taris al hsannd Mr. II.oes wwre ju ti- ged in cheotragiug ihen in it ani in rewaniingthea ior it afet it waa ion. The Enterprise says the Democratic editors are shocked at this result as being made before the investigating committee. It must be admitted that those revelations are sadly cutting but it would seem that the Enterprise has got the positions of these reversed, and that its own sins and the repetitions shall be the ones that are thus shewn. All this is true it insists we must look at the comical side of the affair.
