Streets Were Littered With Broken Branches When Tree Was Torn up
LIGHTNING KILLED MAN
Lee Nixon, Farmer, Living Near the City, Was Killed by Bolt and His Son Injured.
There was a miniature cyclone at Bonaparte this morning, many shade trees being torn up by the roots and the streets littered with branches. The wind was particularly severe in that vicinity and passengers on the Rock Island train, arriving in Keokuk this afternoon, report having seen trees and telegraph poles leveled along the route.
Lee Nixon, a farmer living about five miles from Bonaparte, was struck by lightning and killed and his son Lon, was badly injured.
Reports reaching The Gate City this afternoon, tell of high wind at Centerville and a heavy storm along the river at Muscatine and Davenport. Telegraph wires were badly crippled and details are meagre, but enough has been learned to show at the wind this morning played havoc in many places.

CENTERVILLE, Iowa, May 25-A cyclone swept across southern Iowa today destroying trees, out-buildings and crops. Wires are down and news hard to secure. One report said that several people were killed and injured at Allerton, east of here, but the wires are down and the report cannot be confirmed. At Corydon, trees were uprooted, but no one was injured. The storm was severe at Chariton, but the damage was small. In this city two people were struck by flying boards, but will recover.
