HALLOWELL, July 10.

KINE-POX.

Extract of a letter from Mr. Ephraim Gilman, to Dr. Benjamin Page, jun. of this town, dated Norfolk (Vir.) June 15th, 1801.

"SIR,

"Pursuant to your request, and for my own satisfaction, I have been inoculated for the Small-Pox four different times without effect, after having taken the Kine-Pox from you. I still thought there was a possibility of taking it by contagion, when not by inoculation; but that too I reduced to a certainty, by sleeping constantly with Mr. Randall, our late townsman, who was inoculated with me and took it; and by watching with two others who were very sick with it. It is now three weeks since, and I have not had a symptom of any disease.

"A gentleman who came from Boston lately, told me, that after having taken the Kine-Pox from Dr. Waterhouse, he was inoculated three times for the Small-Pox ineffectually."
