Full Text

MOSCOW, N. Y. MAY 9.

Dreadful Occurrence.--On Sunday morning last, about two o'clock, the house lately occupied by David Cranmer, on the Mount Morris Flats, was burnt to the ground, and we are shocked to add, the above named Cranmer, and a man by the name of Ward Locke, were both burned to death. It appears that Cranmer's family had left the house, after having packed up their effects, preparatory to removal. The two men above mentioned had been dressing flax in the house during the latter part of the day, and about ten o'clock in the evening, retired to rest upon the ax and tow, which had been left lying near the fire-place. The fire by some accident, communicated with the tow, &c. and burnt so rapidly as to envelope the unfortunate sufferers before they awoke.
