Full Text
That such is the design of the Government is likewise inferred from the movements of things. The departure of Gen. Scott for Tampico, the movement of General Taylor upon that town, the abandonment of the march to San Luis Potosi, the garrisoning of Saltillo by our troops, the rapid preparation of so large a number of barges of light draft for the transportation of troops—the collection of stores and arms in such abundance at Tampico, the raising of companies of Rocketters and Mountain Howitzers and other manifest preparations—all look to the capture, and that at a very early day, of Vera Cruz.
