responsibility in reference to the collection of assessments for benevolent purposes. Missionary interest is almost at white heat. Of an assessment of $3,500 there is a deficit of only two most of which will be in hand by June 1st. As a surplus, the sum of $3,500 has been set as a goal, distributed as follows: Trinity, Sumter, $1,500.00; Manning, $1,000.00; the remainder of the district, $1,000.00. The visit of the celebrated team of missionary specialists, Bishop Lambuth, Dr. Kennedy, and Dr. Rawlings, was a great inspiration to everyone who had the privilege of hearing them.

The report on temperance was the only one which produced much discussion. This was occasioned by an expression which could have been easily interpreted to be an endorsement of the prohibition political party, and while every member of the conference is a prohibitionist in belief and practice yet it was regarded as unwise to accept an apparent endorsement of any political party. Our people are emphatically urged to discountenance any sale of intoxicants, any use of alcoholic beverages, and to assist in the suppression of all illegal sale thereof.

Charlton DuRant, L. R. Rollings, J. R. Grimin, and Geo. W. Fairy were elected delegates to the Annual Conference, with J. W. MeCoy and J. W. Inabinet as alternates. Charlton DuRant was unanimously re-elected district lay leader.

W. B. Wharton, of Epworth Orphanage, and J. M. Way, Sunday school secretary, delivered addresses to the conference upon the subject nearest the heart of each.

The resolution of thanks, offered by J. M. Rogers and J. B. Wilson was unanimously adopted by a rising vote.

The next district conference will be held at Lynchburg.
