WASHINGTON, --(INS) - The State Department said today that American lives and properties in Venezuela are reported safe following an unusual shadow of revolt. State Department spokesman Joseph Reap said the American Embassy in Caracas reported today that conditions "are normal in the capital." Reap added: "No United States citizens or property has been reported injured nor are United States citizens involved." Reap said that the State Department is following the Venezuelan situation "with interest," but is awaiting further detailed reports from the Embassy in Caracas. There are approximately 40,000 Americans in Venezuela. United States investments, primarily in oil, amount to about three billion dollars.
