Out of the needs of Seattle's Filipino teens for interesting, educational and enjoyable activities to fill their idle hours, rose in February of 1959 the beginnings of the present FYA Teen Club, sponsored by the Filipino Youth Activities of Seattle, Inc.

Now nearing its first anniversary, the FYA Teen Club still strives to carry out its primary aim of providing its members with those "extra hour" activities, be they social, athletic, educational, cultural or otherwise.

Membership is open to all teenagers from the freshman high school level to age of 19, who are Filipino either by blood, adoption, or foster care.

With the guidance of Moderators, these teens have been able to show the people of Seattle just what good can be accomplished by teenagers if given the proper encouragement and opportunities.

Some of their noteworthy accomplishments are: successful fund projects, car washes, raffles charity work as well as Christmas basket for a needy family; achievement of better understanding among teens themselves with seasonal outings, parties, and dances; and lastly active participation in the entire F.Y.A. program, including extensive athletic and cultural agenda, the annual Seafair Little King and Queen Contest and Coronation, the variety show, and most recently the "CARNABAL."

Some members are counselors in the Order of the Tamaraw, an honor society within the F.Y.A., serving as assistants to Moderators.

Like a growing child, teens make mistakes but learn through them by converting these mistakes into the experience needed to make them responsible and respected adult citizens.

I would like to express my gratitude to the Filipino Forum for making this article possible.
