The following expression of opinion has been attributed to Senator Sabin, chairman of the National Republican committee: 'It will be difficult to convince some people- a great many people-that the Republican party is not responsible for the financial embarrassment of the country.' The first impression that one receives on reading this is surprise that the head-centre of the machine should so express himself yet it is none the less true that it will be more than difficult to convince the intelligent voters throughout the country that the policy of the Republican party in the administration of the affairs of the government is not responsible for any financial embarrassment from which the country may suffer. A policy which has been characterized by extravagant appropriations immense donations to corporations and excessive taxation to support these extravagances and furnish swag for whisky rings, Credit Mobilier, and star route swindlers as well as the host of other corruptionists, could not fail in eventually embarrassing the people of the nation, and how can it be explained?
