Full Text

CHARLESTON, May 8.

The vessel that was seen on Saturday last to the Northward of Sullivan's Island, apparently in distress, has proved to be a Spanish brig from Cuba, bound to Philadelphia. Soon after her departure a guarda costa fell in with her, who obliged her to part with a cable and anchor; and upon her arrival on this coast she lost her main topmast in a gale of wind. In this situation she beat about the bar three or four days, without being able to procure a pilot, and in all probability would have run aground, had not assistance been speedily sent her from the city, and on Sunday afternoon she was brought up to town.
