THE
CITY
Of Dream.
Hast thou stood
in some vast cathedral's organ loft
While the great organ throbs, the stone
stirs,
begetter of the deep ecstatic awe
A rumble like earthquake underfoot, the flame
Of the bright silver flutes shoots heavenward
And music like a darkness and a flame
Gathers and thunders wrapping in it
The great enthral in its inaipt
Marmoreal stairs
Borne in high dignity during the peal,
all in a gaudy robe of amethyst
processions of the holy, singing psalms,
While smoke of incense swung in censers bright
Blew round them, rosy as a sunset cloud.
