Full Text

The Cholera, we rejoice to perceive, seems to be on the decrease in New York. It reached its acme this day week, 18 days after its existence was officially announced there. Six weeks is its general duration in any one place, Where it will break out next, is beyond the ken of man. It has made no regular progress to the Southward. But we cannot hope its progress is stayed; and it behooves us to be ready at a moment's warning to meet and repel the fell destroyer.

Drs. Briggs, Haxall and Burton, have returned from New York. They unite in pronouncing the disease non-contagious, as 99 of every 100 Physicians who have had the opportunity of studying it do. This is one pleasing consolation—for the ties of nature need not be sundered, as in contagious diseases, where the suffering patient is abandoned, and left without the assistance and consolation he so much requires in his utmost extremity.

We take occasion again to assure the Public, that they may confidently rely on our announcing at once, the first approach of the Cholera here—and that until we do announce its existence, they should discard all idle reports on the subject.
