There was much excitement in New York city, last Thursday, on account of the arrest of Alderman Henry Jachne on a charge of bribery in connection with the Broadway railway franchise now undergoing investigation. Police Inspector Byrnes stated that he gained Jachne's confidence to such an extent that the latter had confessed to him as a "good friend" that he was paid $20,000 for his vote in favor of the scheme. Other aldermen are quite as badly implicated, and some startling revelations of corruption are promised.
