- A Seaman of the ship Elvira Dovale, loading at Moody, Nelson & Co.'s mills, was severely injured by a fall from the side of the ship upon some saw-logs, a distance of thirty feet. He was taken up in a paralyzed condition, suffering spinal concussion.
Muir Bros. new side-wheel steamer, the first built at Sooke, was launched last week.
Fine specimens of black marble from Kennedy Island are on exhibition in Victoria.
Capt. Sturt has gone with a force of mechanics and workmen to Texada Island, prepared for the development and operation on a large scale of his marble quarry on that island. The marble quarried will be exported to San Francisco. It is said to be able to hold its own with either the Vermont or Italian article in that market.
The Victoria authorities keep a gang of men employed in cutting down thistles on the public streets.
