New York Episcopal Diocesan Convention.—The Diocesan Convention of the Episcopal Church in this State assembled in this city Sept. 29th, at St. John's church. Rev. Morgan Dix preached the opening sermon, which was printed in the Times of the 30th, and it is privately whispered to have caused considerable excitement among churchmen, particularly among the "Low" or Evangelical body, on account of the bold ground taken by the speaker for a higher church life. Much interest is felt in the proceedings of the Convention, from the developments taking place in this same direction by the largest and wealthiest churches of the city, and the efforts which their "Low" brethren are making to check their progress. A love for glaring ritualistic service, united with active church work, in all its varied forms, is beginning to prevail extensively among the New York Episcopalians, and the Church under their influence was never so prosperous or influential.—New York correspondence Sac. Union.
