Melancholy accident.--On Friday last, Mr. Anthony M. Murdu, an industrious carman, while engaged in the removal of earth from a clay bank, came to his death by the falling of the earth which had been previously undermined, but from which on account of the frost, no danger was apprehended. He has left a widow and several children who were dependent on his earnings for support. His funeral was yesterday, attended by the largest and most respectable number of citizens we almost ever witnessed on a similar occasion. This melancholy accident, we trust, will serve as a caution to others engaged in similar employments, and prevent the too frequent and dangerous practice of undermining large bodies of earth.
