DELEGATE DIMOND PROTESTS FISH BILL

In another one of those bills to help the people of Alaska, came up in Congress recently. Called the Alaska Fishery Act. Evidently the proponents of the Bill forgot to call any of the people of Alaska who were probably interested also.

Dimond reports some queer provisions and asks for serious consideration on the subject. He mentions one part in which the Bill seems to be in line with some other legislation applying to Alaska.

This provision gives the fishing administration, which is controlled by the Department of the Interior, the right to limit the amount of gear that a fisherman can use in any given area. This is based on the presumption that there may be too many fishermen in certain areas after the war and as a conservation measure. It's funny that the people of Alaska don't appreciate the efforts that are made to provide the abundant life for them!
