NEVADA LEGISLATURE.
SEVENTH SESSION.
Senate—Twentieth Day.
CARSON CITY, January 23, 1875.

MORNING SESSION.

The Senate met at 11 A. M. Prayer by the Chaplain. President pro tem. Stevenson in the Chair.

By Varian—Providing for funding the debt of Humboldt county.

INTRODUCTION OF BILLS.

By McClinton—Relative to defending possessory actions on government lands.

SECOND READING OF BILLS.

The Assembly bill relative to taking care of insane persons was read a second time and referred to the Committee on Ways and Means.

Leave of absence was asked for Senators King and Davenport, who wanted to go home. Mr. Lockwood objected. About that time members from the steerage came pouring in, and it occurred to the Senate that the House had adjourned over until Monday, and were in for a trip to Virginia. Not to be outdone by the lower House, it was moved that the Senate do now also adjourn and go to Virginia. The Secretary was cut short in the midst of the reading of an interesting bill for the suppression and prevention of hogs running at large; the motion was put, and carried by 14 to 6. As soon as the result was announced a general stampede was made for the 12 o'clock train to the region of the Big Bonanza.

ASSEMBLY.

House met pursuant to adjournment. Speaker Dovey in the chair. Roll call—Quorum present. Prayer by the Chaplain.

This was a bad day for legislation in both Houses; also, as far as the weather was concerned. In this House no new bills were introduced and no motions made—except to adjourn, after a session of 35 minutes.

REPORTS OF COMMITTEES.

Mr. Wren, from the Judiciary Committee, favorably reported back Senator Varian's bill prohibiting three-card monte, with an amendment prohibiting monte of any kind—whether played with three or more cards, as is sometimes the case.

From Committee on Corporations—Favorably on Senator Piper's bill for the construction of a street railroad in Virginia City.

The bill to prevent the collection by retail whisky sellers of debts incurred by their customers, was reported back without recommendation, and may, therefore, be considered as killed.

The bill to prevent the carrying of concealed weapons was also reported back unfavorably and may be considered in the same category as the above.

The bill for the proper observance of the Christian Sabbath, was favorably reported upon.

Mr. Jones, of the Ormsby Delegation, reported the Carson Street Railroad bill back recommending its passage. Subsequently the bill came up in its regular order and was passed unanimously.

Buckner, of Humboldt, made an able argument in support of the joint resolution protesting against the removal of Camp McDermitt from near Winnemucca to Carlin, and hoped that no feeling of false sentimentality would prevent the passage of this general protest.

After which a motion to adjourn was carried by a vote of 20 to 18.
