CRIMINAL COURT—Hon. M. L. Hall presiding.

The May term of this court assembled Monday and the following proceedings were had:

Grand jury—W. M. Lewis, foreman—W. T. Osborne, Joseph Morton, William Goodman, Noah Bales, S. P. Brown, I. A. Maxwell, David Gallaher, William Winsted, James Lett, Abram Stair, Richard Bird, C. Wallace.

Traverse jurors—John Galyon, Hugh Newbert, W. M. Burkhart, W. A. Fraker, H. Coram, Lewis Miller, J. G. Fowler, C. W. Weaver, R. W. Hardin, J. B. Guin, J. C. Luttrell, William Coleman, William Carter, John Saylor, P. W. Morris, Jacob Tipton, Samuel King, J. A. Bales, James McLemore, Isaac Price, Harvey Norman, Oswell Sharp, M. A. Walker.

Messrs. M. F. Caldwell and J. W. DeMarcus were sworn as attorneys in this court.

State vs. Ephraim Davis and Bell Shelton, lewdness; nol. pros. on costs. State vs. Tom Moore, obscenity; nol. pros. on costs. State vs. S. W. Tindell, neglect as overseer; nol. pros. on costs. State vs. Robt. McMillan, obstruction of public road; nol. pros. Henry Browning vs. Betty Browning, divorce; dismissed. State vs. Nicholas Osborne, rape; continued on affidavit of defendant. State vs. Wm. Homer, drunkenness, 2 cases; continued on affidavit of defendant. State vs. C. T. Lour, profanity; nol. pros. State vs. Jack Cox, carrying weapons; nol. pros. on costs. State vs. E. S. Burgner, perjury; passed till May 10. State vs. Winfield Cobb, assault and battery; alias. State vs. Wm. Mathews, selling whisky on Sunday; not guilty. State vs. S. T. Abbott, merchandising without license; nol. pros. on costs. State vs. John Cavanaugh, disorderly house; not guilty. State vs. George Graham, carrying weapons; guilty; fined $50; motion for new trial overruled; appeal prayed. State vs. Chas. Scott, carrying weapons; continued by consent.

It was ordered that all civil causes that are litigated are passed until Monday, May 23.

State vs. Richard McCampbell, profanity and drunkenness; passed till next Monday.

State vs. Betty Ray, lewdness; nol. pros. State vs. Thomas Hall, carrying weapons; nol. pros. on costs. State vs. Lon. Compton, assault and battery; nol. pros. State vs. Mart. Adkins, gaming; not guilty. State vs. D. F. Gallaher, felonious assault; nol. pros. State vs. Sam'l Young, carrying weapons; nol. pros. State vs. Charley Emmett, larceny; jury respited.

The following State cases were retired from the docket:

James Mulvany, Allen Quinton, John Stevens, John Marlow, John Gilbert, Anderson Cook, Wm. Perry, Tom Conners, John Chamless, Sam'l Turner, Wm. Green, John Lindsey, Thos. Gentle, J. J. Curtin, D. Devault and J. J. Carter.

It was ordered by the court that all witnesses bound over by justices in the 1st, 2d, and 12th districts be discharged from attendance on the court.

Court adjourned till 8 o'clock this morning.
