Major James E. Barkley, sheriff of this county, left last night for Huntsville with the following prisoners, sentenced to the penitentiary at the last term of the criminal district court:
William Hill, white, five years, theft; James H. Davis, colored, life, murder; Governor Davis, colored, two years theft; James Osborn, colored, five years, rape.
The following gentlemen accompanied the sheriff, acting as guards to the prisoners, viz.: Captain W. H. Gaston, Colonel Eblin and Perry Bowser, Esq.
After delivering the prisoners at the penitentiary, Major Barkley will proceed to Galveston and be present at the celebration of Mardi Gras on the 9th.
