Writ Prevents Execution Tomorrow of Convicted Murderer.
SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 14. (P)— Intervention by the appellate court here late today stopped the hanging of George Ryley at San Quentin prison at 10 a. m. tomorrow.
The court granted a writ of habeas corpus which in effect granted Ryley a reprieve until September 8.
No action was taken in the case of John Gomez, also scheduled to hang tomorrow morning.
Ryley, who is 20, and Gomez, 22, were convicted of the murder of George (Dad) Jones, taxi driver, at Livermore, Cal., several months ago.
