Speaks to 3,000 Butte Copper Miners
BUTTE, Mont., Sept. 12.-James W. Ford, Communist vice-presidential candidate, spoke to 3,000 workers here Saturday. He received a tremendous ovation when he paid his revolutionary respects to Bill Dunne, formerly of this city and leader of workers' struggles here. (Editor's Note.-Dunne will fill Foster's speaking dates while Foster is ill).
Ford slashed into the prosperity ballyhoo and the present stock market rise talk by capitalist writers. He showed that this flurry on the stock exchange is being used as an excuse to cut off all relief from the jobless this winter.
Old timers declared that although Ford was young in years they could see he was an old fighter for the working class, and would have their support.
Rogers S. Murray, Communist candidate for congress spoke from the same platform, assailing the copper trust and the politicians who do its bidding. The Rustling card system, the copper company's form of blacklist, and forced labor here were exposed by Murray.
Walter I. Shea, editor and journalist, was chairman of the meeting.
