WRITTEN FOR THE BOLIVAR BULLETIN BY A. A.

Beautiful Stranger! What thought shall I pen
To picture my reverence for thee!
What word can I use! what reference make
To win thy dear friendship to me!
If I call thee charming, brilliant, gay,
A burst of kindliest emotion
'Twould be but a drop compared to the waste
That fills Eternity's ocean!
If I say that thy eyes are beacons of love,
Thy music the poet-bird's superior,
I do not say choice, and only expose
A pen and a mind inarticulate.
Then what shall I say? Posy! I name thee
A heart's own wildwood flower?—
Ah! I'll call thee The Rose Bud—the bud
From the Old Dominion's fair bower!
