Tongues Wagin Baker's Arrest

LOS ANGELES (WS)-Mrs. Isaac Nesbit (21) is in the General Hospital on account of knife wounds— received at the hands of Sam Baker, giant 32 year old movie actor and ex-boxer, here last Monday morning at a beer garden. Baker is being held by the police on suspicion of assault with a deadly

The trouble arose at the beer garden on Central Avenue when Mrs. Nesbit is alleged to have called Baker a "stool pigeon." The well known actor resented the remark and began assaulting the woman. Onlookers thought he was using his hands but soon realized that he was inflicting wounds on the woman with a knife, which upon being counted were found to be seven.

After the cutting fray Baker is alleged to have gone home and retired. The police found him in bed when they began to look for him. Sam Baker is well known around Los Angeles and has fought some of the best heavyweight boxers in the game. He is better known however as a motion picture actor; having been featured in many pictures and serials. He played two good roles, one in "King of the Jungles" and a serial made by the Universal Studio, "Jungle Mystery." In the later he played the part of "Jongo"

Because of his tremendous size, Baker has received good salaries when he has worked. He is about 6 feet 7 inches and weighs about 250 pounds. He is a veritable giant and people wonder why he attacked a little woman with a knife.

Baker is reported to be well liked by one of Hollywood's leading white movie actors. This man has been a favorite of screen lovers for many years and is reported to be an intimate friend of the gigantic player. One of the rumors since the cutting of last Monday morning is that Baker has strings on this man's pocket book. He is supposed to never be in need of money and is reported to be able to go down town and pick out any automobile he wants and drive it away All he has to do is to have the dealer call this friend and the latter will tell the dealer that all expenses will be taken care of by him.

The huge colored player asserts that he cut the girl because she called him a police informer. Other people say that the girl is an intimate friend of Baker's sweetheart and knew that he was not a "stool pigeon." This bit of gossip has caused the tongues of people to wag because they point out that if this is true, why should Baker cut his girl friend's pal?
