CANADIAN GAS RESERVES AMPLE WITHOUT VALLEY REPORT SAYS

Many Sources Of Fuel Revealed By Survey Of Alberta Fields

Large Flows On Border

CALGARY, July 23-Alberta cities are watching with close interest the Turner valley gas situation. The conservation measures imposed by the government's gas board have met with opposition by some companies, others have accepted them and curtailed the flow of their wells to the required amount.

With conservation the life of the field may be prolonged 25 or 30 years, it is stated.

Water invasion is also threatening the field giving emphasis to the demands for curtailment.

Other Sources

With Turner valley wells pinching down in production other sources of supply are being studied. The Imperial Oil has a 10,000,000-foot gasser shut in in Pouce Coupe.

There are big gas supplies in Peace river and Pelican rapids areas.

Good gassers have been found at Wainwright and Ribstone. At Kinsella, in east central Alberta, a commercial well was opened up in 1929.

Huge Reserves

In the south, Alberta has enormous gas reserves, the exact volume not being known. The Rogers field, controlled by Lethbridge and Calgary men who organized the old Southern Alberta Oil and Refining company, later the Range, has one well, a giant capable of making upwards of 60,000,000 cubic feet a day.

The Imperial opened another gas field just west on Erickson coulee.

Red Coulee, west of Coutts, has considerable gas reserve.

Foremost Shut In

The Foremost field, one of the older ones, has been shut in for months by the Canadian Western Natural Gas company which has been serving its customers from Turner Valley. Lethbridge consumers have been using the valley gas. The Cypress hills area is heavy gas producer, the field being proven by the Roth interests of Independence, Kan.

The supply is capped. Medicine Hat has large gas reserves.
