The Atlanta City Council Monday unanimously approved a joint $12,700,000 Atlanta-Fulton County bond issue election July 1 'to complete expressways.
Action on the controversial home rule for Atlanta was deferred and the proposal to limit new liquor licenses to the inner fire limits was defeated.
Action on the bond issue proposal, under which Atlanta would issue $6,000,000. came after Ralph Huie, chairman of the finance committee, said it. will entail no increase in taxes.
If the bond issue proposal is approved by voters, funds will be provided by the two local governments to match state and federal funds for construction of the downtown connector to extend Glenn Street. into the South leg of the expressway, to complete the northeast leg and make other much-needed improvements:
In other action, Council in a 13-13 roll call vote reversed the police committee by killing the ordinance to restrict liquor store locations, and referred measures dealing with home rule to the special nine-man home rule committee for further study.
