Missouri's Great School System.
State Superintendent of Public Schools William T. Carrington has made special efforts to gather accurate statistics covering all phases of school work for his forthcoming report, whether the schools be public, private or church. It is believed that the report will be more complete and accurate in this respect than is usual.
Some of the figures contained in the report are taken from the advance sheets which have come from the public printer, and make the following showing:

Endowments--Public funds (state, county and township), $13,023,997; private and church endowment. $6,568,479.
Public high schools-Number of high schools, 283: number of teachers. 909: number of pupils enrolled, 23,117: number of graduates in four years' course. 1,860; number of graduates in three years' course, 2,065; number of graduates in two years' course, 3,215; total high school graduates. 7,143; per cent. of enrolled pupils in high school. 3.2; per cent. of salaries paid high school teachers. 9.2.
Number of teachers--Public, elementary and high schools. 16,923: state institutions (university. normals. etc.) 185; state institutions (for defectives). 90: private institutions (colleges and academies). 1,417: parochial and other private elementary schools. 1,551; total number of teachers. 20,166.
Number of pupils enrolled-Public. elementary and high schools. 704,193: state institutions (university, normals. etc.), 5,086; state institutions (for defectives), 954; private institutions (colleges and academies), 22,072; parochial and other private elementary schools. 48,236; total enrollment in all schools. 780,541.
Annual expenditures for education $8,363,128: state institutions (universities, normal schools, etc.), $686,000; state institutions (for defectives), $274,000; private institutions (colleges and academies, etc.). $1,307,700; parochial and other private elementary schools, $335,000; total education, 1903, $10,959,828.
