Wednesday last the Great and General Court met here, when his Excellency the Governor was pleased to make the following SPEECH to both Houses, viz.
Gentlemen of the Council, and Gentlemen of the House of Representatives,
I HAVE thought proper to call you together, that you may have an Opportunity to give a positive Answer to what I recommended to you, by Order of his Majesty, last Session; as it will be expected of me that it be reported to his Majesty before the opening of the Business of the next Year: And I heartily wish that it may be such as will answer the Expectations and Desires of your Friends in Great-Britain. For my own Part, I shall upon this Occasion, as upon all others, make the best Use of the Means you shall put in my Hands to promote the Honour and Reputation of the Province.
As you are called together for this Business only, when it is finished, I shall have no Objection to your returning Home, until the usual Time of opening the Winter Session.
