Cynthia Grey's Letters
Would you think it right for a young man of thirty wishing to get married to make acquaintance through a matrimonial bureau?
A READER.
A.—Such bureaus are not a safe guide to matrimony.
I should advise you to attend some church where you will be more than likely to meet many very fine girls.
You might identify yourself with some lodge and in that way make new acquaintances.
Dear Miss Grey:
(1) Is it all right for two school girls to go horseback riding alone in the afternoon or evening?
(2) Do light brown hair and blue eyes, and dark brown hair and dark blue eyes go together?
(3) Does it make any difference in marriage if both parties concerned have blue eyes?
(4) How should one act when boys swear in their presence?
J. E. L.
A.—(1) It is all right to go in the afternoon, but not in the evening without a chaperone. (2) Yes. (3) No. (4) If a boy has no more respect for you or himself than to swear before you, avoid him.
Dear Miss Grey:
My wife insists upon my staying at home every evening. Now, the nature of my business necessitates my being absent from the house at least two evenings a week, and I tell her she is unreasonable. How can we come to agreeable terms on this subject? I must leave the house occasionally, and I will have peace if I have to fight for it.
QUERIST.
A.—Your wife probably has known of homes being broken up by the absence evenings of the head of the house. I am sure if you tell her that your business absolutely demands that you be away and explain to her where you will be that she will, if she loves you, be reasonable. If you have to return to the office and it is possible for her to go with you, take her for a few times and then she will be convinced.
Dear Miss Grey:
I have several holes in my face which seem to have started from a blackhead. Is there any possible way for me to prevent them from getting larger or to close them up?
WORRIED GIRL.
A.—Keep the pores clean by occasionally steaming and massaging the face. Lemon juice applied will greatly improve the condition.
