Full Text

Desperately Hurt.—The Silver State of Tuesday says that Frank Callisch, Railroad agent at Halleck, who was injured at the time that station was burned last Sunday morning, passed here last evening on his way to the Railroad Hospital at Sacramento. He was sleeping in the depot building at the time of the fire, and upon awaking, discovered that the house was in flames. A lot of powder and canister for Camp Halleck was stored in the building, and at the moment he awoke and discovered the fire, the flames were within a short distance of it, and while endeavoring to escape from the building, the floor gave way under him, and both his legs were broken. In this condition, expecting an explosion every minute, and unable to extricate himself, every moment seemed a lifetime, until he was released by some of the residents at the station. When the fire reached the powder and shells a terrific cannonade ensued, as shell after shell was fired, until all the ammunition in the building was burned. Fears are entertained that both of Callisch's legs will have to be amputated.
