EDINBURG, Feb. 1—Hidalgo county officers were without a clue tonight in the strange disappearance of James Johnson, fruit truck driver, who has been unheard from or unseen for the past week and a half.
He was last seen at Pharr last Wednesday or Thursday a week ago. Johnson is a driver for a Tulsa, Okla., firm, it was learned, and he is known to have cashed checks totaling about $260 before his disappearance.
A man with him is being sought for questioning following the discovery of Johnson's truck, abandoned, near San Antonio. Bexar county officers are working on the case with Hidalgo authorities.
Fears that Johnson had met with a "death ride" were felt by officers.
