Ex-artillery soldiers complained that the bread furnished for them to eat was unfit. The officer of the day examined the bread and ordered the men to eat it. The men carried the bread to the window and threw it into the street. Now the whole company of Grenadiers is in the guard house to answer for mutiny and insubordination. Here was an incident that the foreign war correspondent permitted to pass without associating the war on bread as a forerunner of a war of blood involving all the European nations.
