BY CAMP DIRECTOR
DANNY PILOSENO
The past eight weeks we have had a tremendous amount of interest and enthusiasm shown by the boys and girls attending our Counselor School. We have received approximately two hundred applications, and these applicants have been attending the sessions very religiously.
Each year we have more and more interested applicants which means our summer program will become more and more successful.
Last Thursday, May 23, 1957 was our last Counselors meeting. At that meeting a written test was administered. Following is a list of questions given. See how well you can do with them?
1. How may the Counselor Help New Campers feel at home?
2. How may the Counselor Co-operate with the Waterfront Director?
3. How may a Counselor help with individual Campers problems?
4. Name some factors that might cause Homesickness and name ways of treating Homesickness.
5. Plan a two hour Rainy Day Program within the Cabin.
6. Make a list of the special abilities and skills which you have that are of value to you as a Counselor.
7. Should good manners be maintained in Camp and why?
8. List both poor habits and good habits that campers aged 8-14 may show. How would you deal with the poor habits?
Cards notifying the boys and girls regarding their appointment have been sent out in the mail. We are sorry to say that it is impossible to hire all of the wonderful boys and girls, but we endeavored to appoint the best of the group for our Counselors.
From the group of boys and girls appointed for the various summer camp positions there are eighteen different High Schools represented. Following is a list of High Schools represented:
Woodward tops the list with eleven and next in order Central, Scott, Libbey, Waite, Macomber, DeVilbiss, St. Francis, Whitmer, Clay, St. Ursula, Burnham, Anthony Wayne, Whitney Vocational, Notre Dame Academy, Sandusky, Bedford, Michigan and finally Detroit, Michigan. Our Nurse's Aid is a Sophomore at Bowling Green State University and our Handicraft Teacher is a Senior at Eastern Michigan College.
With our group of Counselors and instructors coming from a wide area we are certain that this will help to make our 1957 Summer Camp season the best yet.
When we have a variety of districts represented among our staff, it tends to create many more constructive ideas and suggestions to enhance our chance of being successful.
