CITY DADS AWARD CONTRACTS FOR PLACING TARVIA ON STREETS IN RAINEY AND RILEY ADDITIONS
PARK AVENUE TO BE IMPROVED ENTIRE LENGTH—MANHOLES FOR SURFACE WATER TO BE CONSTRUCTED

The London city council on Friday night awarded the contract for placing tarvia on the streets of Riley and Rainey additions, North Madison road from High to Fourth street, all of New Hampshire avenue and Park avenue from Main to Elm, to William Smith, London contractor.

This street work, long needed, will prove of invaluable aid to the entire city, affording to many residents of the two additions a fit means of both vehicle and foot travel, especially in bad weather.

In many parts of both Riley and Rainey additions no sidewalks are available and heretofore, the property owners and residents have been forced to wade through mud and water to get in and out of their homes and their children have been subjected to such conditions in going to and from school.

The work is to be completed as soon as possible and follows a period of preparation which has included the spreading of tons of crushed stone upon the various streets, grading and other necessary work.

The improvement of Park avenue from North Main street to Elm will afford a cut-off from the north portion of the city to the east that long has been considered necessary. The roadway will also be given a coat of asphalt later in the season.

The contract for the construction of a number of man-holes for surface water sewers was awarded to Pearl C. Tingley, London. The work is provided for as follows: Two manholes on North Oak street, three on South Oak and two near the Thomas & Armstrong plant on Maple street.
