Full Text
The following beautiful Epitaph on Dr. Dodd, was written soon after he suffered
the publication of which may not be deemed unseasonable. Should the extraordinary account of his being yet alive prove true or a fiction.
Epitaph on Dr. DODD.
HERE he sleeps, inurn'd, the Minister of woe,
That taught the heart to feel,--the eye to flow
From whom distress ne'er came with bosom griev'd,
Whose tongue persuaded, and whose hands relieved.
What eye, unblotted, could observe his fall?
Just---where he could.--benevolent to all.--
Here cease enquiry ;---being made him blest ;
Let pity veil the page that speaks the rest.
