BASKETMAKERS URGED TO CONTINUE WORK SO THAT MANY GOOD BASKETS WILL BE READY FOR RODEO, FAIRS

With increased interest being shown in buying of well-made, well-designed Papago baskets, it is hoped that basket makers will continue to work during the summer.

Efforts are being made to have more baskets in hand in September than are usually available because basket makers go to the cotton fields. State and county fairs and the tribal rodeo have need of a variety of good baskets, it is pointed out.

Mrs. Lolita Manuel, basket-buyer for the Papago Self-Help Program, is still making large sales of baskets. One trader from Taos, N.M., bought more than $200 worth this week. This is the same person who bought about one-half of the baskets originally designated for the Tribal rodeo.

Especially wanted right now are baskets of wastepaper size, trays for rolls or other hot-bread, purses, and cat, dog, and owl novelty items. Orders are waiting to be filled for such baskets.
