Buenos Ayres is said to be retaken by the Spaniards. Reports and opinions as to the fact are opposite and contradictory. It is however sufficiently obvious that the force under Popham could not retain the place against the will of the people. Unexpectedly surprised, they gave way to the first impulse, under apprehensions that an enterprise of such magnitude would not be attempted without certainty of immediate reinforcement.--It is reasonable then to infer that the Spaniards finding their fears visionary, rallied the strength of the country, expelled the British, and retook the capital.
