Gazette Of The United States, & Daily Advertiser

Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania

What is this article about?

A critical letter denounces a Jacobin meeting in New Jersey chaired by Mayor Joseph Bloomfield, spotlighting committee member Dr. John Brognard as a French agent promoting Jefferson's election and corrupting public morals. It urges citizens to watch closely. A follow-up query asks if the mayor mentioned Sr. John in his address, given reports of his dislike for the Sr. Marshal's sales.

For the Gazette of the United States.

One of Joseph Bloomfield's Committee
JOHN BROGNARD.

At a meeting of Jacobins held at Slab
Town State of New Jersey, in the Mayoralty
of Jos. Bloomfield, who wants an Office
under the general Government; but would
accept of Governor of the State, We are
informed by the Aurora of Saturday last
that the aforesaid Joseph, Mayor of
Burlington, was called to the Chair; and
delivered an Address* after which the nomination
of a Committee of Persons residing in each
County took place.

The first on the list for Burlington County
is a Frenchman, who has been but a few
years in the United States. Doctr. John
Brognard an avowed Infidel; who lives
near the Black Horse in the Township of
Mansfield. It would be impossible for
France to have a more active Agent than
this Man, he is decidedly in favour of French
measures, openly. Justifies the conduct of
the terrible Republic, towards our Government;
and heretofore has been very busy, in his
endeavours to corrupt the good people, by
disseminating his damnable principles. He
is now very active in his own district, in
promoting the election of Jefferson, and has
made use of every mean for that purpose.
Fellow Citizens keep a good look out.

A JERSEY BLUE.

A person wishes to know if the Mayor in
this address said any thing respecting Sr.
John, as it is reported he does not admire
the Sr. Marshal's Sales.
